Some experts are warning that unless we bail out wallstreet our economy will "go Argentina on us." That's news that has my Argentine Momma Mia planting more fruit trees. (Ok, she would have planted them regardless, but uncertainty about the economy is the current excuse...)
Anyway, for what it's worth here's three random things about Argentina for you!
1-This recent picture of Tio Chiro reminds me of good times playing cards and drinking our yerba mate and of how there are NO cob webs hiding in those plants because almost everyone in Argentina has a maid. Even maids have maids. And even if you don't have a maid all floors are mopped every single day. Other people cleaning other people's dirt...it's a brilliant concept! 2-Houses are made of brick all the way around. I think they'd find it "curious" that in the USA houses often have brick only in the front. This is a typical wood front door.
3- Dear Fragrance Department, Argentina has a distinct scent; one that you can revel in. Is there a perfume out there that smells like leather, citrus, paraiso trees, jasmine, and yerba mate with an underlying hint of moth balls? I'm not kidding, is there?
BONUS: Below are fotos of Parana, Entre Rios (where Momma Mia is from and a place I dearly love.)

wow- very beautiful!
**my house is indeed curious, and my floor gets mopped twice a week if its lucky.
if if our economy is going to end up equal to argentina's, i think i'd rather be there and at least enjoy views like that!
Yes, Parana is really beautiful. I'm from across that wonder of a bridge, from Rosario. I do love Argentina's smell. Springs there are intoxicating. It must certainly be the jasmine. And I still drink mate, several times a day, especially in the fall, watching my kids play outside while I talk with my husband or read a good book. Have you ever read Marcos Aguinis? "El Atroz Encanto de Ser Argentinos" made me really homesick, even though Utah has been home for almost 11 years. Soda Stereo has made a come back at home. I don't know, maybe all this economic problems and the fall have awakened the nostalgic, melancholy Argentine in me.
It's beautiful there! I would love to go there on vacation and check it out in person.
Also, I loved all the pictures of rooftop gardens!!! So COOL.
Houses aren't brick all the way round in the USA?? How did I not know that? The picture of the brick house looked just like houses here *grin* We have a red brick house too.
I want to visit! It looks so beautiful. I especially want to smell it.
Btw my last post is about a really cute outdoor house. Kind of like a tree-house but not really up in a tree. I can't wait to own a home so I can build one.
pamo, i want to say something about how my floor gets mopped daily - if you count all the things i spill and my dog licking it up after- but that would be gross...
b, you would LOVE it there. it would love you back.
yamile! wow! my mom said she has that book! now i'm gonna hafta read it. i'm glad to find another argentine close by! YAY!
rachel, you're going to love our rooftop garden better than those...i know how you adore strawberries...
Mish, i remember when you were here you were missing all of the fresh produce you can get in australia, remember?
angie, i wish i could recreate the scent! i bet that house smells good...wow.
Thanks for letting me know about the videos no longer being available. I reposted them as links and they work now.
Btw, expect a visit from me soon. I think I need a little Raquel in my life, and I realized I don't have your phone number. I don't even know if you have a phone (do cell phones increase your carbon footprint...?)
My parents are embarking on an adventure to Argentina in January. They will serve as humanitarian aid LDS missionaries. They are furiously trying to learn the language in the meantime.
Hi Asia! That's fantastic news about your parents. I'm sure they'll be very loved and appreciated by the Argentine people. It's so nice to hear from you.
