thumping the hive

i love where i live. i love my cordial neighbors, the mountains, the tree-lined streets, the river and lake. sometimes i want to gather up all the provo goodness and give it a thankful squeeze. and when people say "crap" about Provo i used to want to put up my "tiny ineffectual fists" and defend it. But not anymore! Provo can steady its own ark (i can be so old testament).

my fling with provo is ongoing despite A WHOLE LOTTA THINGS which have been coming to a head recently. i hate the culture of obedience. wait. before this is a full blown vent...really all my fuming botherdness about provo comes down to...

...the small-minded contingency of elected leaders (one in particular) at some of our reVISIONing downtown meetings that can't stand the "artist-types". but of course these sorry citizens of whom i speak tell me this while saying, "except for you raquel" and I'm thinking "I'm so embarrassed to NOT be included with the artist-types whom you show such great disdain." and i'm also thinking, "Uh, VISIONS are artists' specialty. LISTEN to the artists!!"

signed,
O- that i could be considered a dangerous, subversive artist-type!

There are some who will just never get it. Just work around them, my dear. Plowing straight through will lead to heartache and frustration.

I'm on your team!

You just keep swinging those "tiny ineffectual fists" of yours.

(Eventually, their own global warming activities will to melt these people into ineffectual puddles of mush and the artist will draw pictures of the stain they leave on the sidewalks of Provo.)

I'm with you! I'm with you!

but you are the subversive artist type that they hate...it's...it's just that they love you too, who can't? so you have the enviable position of being on the inside and outside at the same time. Just keep on doing what you love.

sue-donym, you and r are part of the provo goodness. thanks for the advice and did you ever think your staff members would still be calling you about work?

andi, i am a huge fan of your comment. the "stains on sidewalks" remind me of the good ol' days when our art profs would be late to class because they were studying guano on the pavement.

azucar, will provo ultimately get it? will provo stop marginalizing the artist-types?

james, where are you??? I miss you. I need some James time. We had a rip roaring party with Kimmy, Vajaya, Brian, and everyone last night and you weren't there. well, i hope you're living it up in vegas. =(

pamo, alas, i WISH this "expose" of downtown politics would be intimidating to the right people. there's gotta be a way that the artist-types don't get written off.

hey susan, um. let's make a movie. =)

Yeah let's make a movie and help them to see the light! You rock this provo town and deserve so many kisses and hugs and words of encouragement and medals and cakes not pulled out of a dumpster and solar panels and a zip line from your house to work!

Obedient Mormons is an urban myth. If they really were they'd be with you and unite in love and solidarity with the greater community. Some day.
